This special experience promises you a trip to the gorge of flowers, the city of Tsaghkadzor – a small Olympic town not far from Yerevan, approximately an hour’s drive away. It is also called the Armenian Switzerland, as it is surrounded by dense mountain forests.
According to tradition the fortress and flowerbed with most of the beautiful flowers were built by the order of Princess Pahlavuni. As the legend holds, once the flowers were torn from the princess’ garden and scattered over the land by the strong wind. That is why this destination is referred to as “the gorge of flowers” since it is blooming with an array of gorgeous plants. Many people visit Tsaghkadzor for its fresh air, which is known to have a countless number of health benefits. Additionally, it has become Armenia’s ski center during the winter months. Kecharis Monastery Complex of 11th century is also located here. It was founded by Pahlavuni princes.
The next stop is Lake Sevan that is only 30 minutes’ drive distance from Tsaghkadzor. It is known as a blue gem of the Armenian mountainscape. During the tour you will climb a flight of stairs to the Sevan peninsula – a pleasant work-out that will compensate itself with an unforgettable panoramic view of the lake from the top. We will also visit the monastery of Sevanavank, built by the princess Mariam to honor the life of her deceased husband in the 9th century. Sevanavank is also home to one of the most beautiful Amenaprkich (all savior) Khachkars of Armenia. This is one of the 13 rarest crosstones depicting Jesus. After discovering historical landmarks, you will also have a chance to enjoy the blue waters of Sevan more closely during the boat trip.
The final stop will be in a local bakery, where you will participate in the procedure of baking traditional armenian bread.
