Day 1: Arrival – Transfer from the airport – Walking City Tour
Upon your arrival our driver will meet you at the airport and accompany to your hostel. After having some rest you will have a chance to take part in our evening walking city tour with guide at 19:00.
Walking City Tour:Republic Square, Opera House, Cascade Complex: During the tour you will visit the most popular sights of the capital. The tour starts at the heart of Yerevan city, the Republic Square, where you can get in touch with the great history of Armenia through the magnificent architectural ensemble that surrounds the Republic Square. Walking up by the Abovyan street which is considered to be the oldest and one of the most beautiful streets of the modern Yerevan, you will explore some of the few buildings left from the end of the 19th century which represent the Russian Empire Style. Passing by the many little nice street cafes you will reach Charles Aznavour square which is home to the Moscow cinema. Continuing your way through the French Square and the park of the Yerevan State Conservatory you will reach the Cascade or as we like to call it “The stairway to heaven”, one of the symbols of the Armenian capital. The tour ends at the top of the Cascade square from where you will unveil the extraordinary beauty of the city on the background of the majestic Mount Ararat.
Day 2: Group Tour – Garni, Geghard, Lavash Baking and tasting or Khor Virap, Noravank, Areni Cave, Areni winery (wine degustation), traditional lunch
Depending on your arrival date you will have a chance to participate in one of the following tours:
Garni, Geghard, National bread “Lavash” baking and tasting. This fantastic tour will introduce you to the exotic Pagan history of Armenia, and show the later development and spread of Christianity in the country. The first stop is Garni Temple (77 A.D.) –it is the only standing heathen temple in the whole post-Soviet area. The Monastery complex of Geghard is another historical site included to this tour. St. Geghard symbolizes the lance with which the Roman centurion pierced Jesus after crusifixion. Not far from the temple of Garni (about 10 minutes’ walk), there is a cozy local restaurant with an amazing view of the temple, where you can relax and take part in master-class of tasting of freshly baked lavash – traditional Armenian flatbread.
Khor Virap, Areni Cave, Noravank, Areni wine factory (excursion and wine tasting), traditional lunch. The Khor Virap monastery is located about an hour’s drive away from the capital Yerevan, and offers an amazing view of Armenia’s defining symbol – the majestic Ararat. It was this prison in which they kept Gregory the Illuminator, the first Armenian Catholicos, for a whole 13 years. The tour will take you to the Areni cave (Bird’s Cave). In 2008, archeologists discovered several of the world’s oldest artifacts, including a leather shoe and a winery. Another place that can’t be missed is Noravank. It is one of the gems of medieval Armenian architecture, nestled high among the stunning brick-red cliffs in the end of the Gnishik Canyon. Here you will see the one and only depiction of God the Father in Armenia, which is just as astonishing as the face of Jesus Christ that appeared on the dome of the Church’s narthex. What concerns the “finishing touch” to this tour, you will be given a chance to taste and even purchase Armenia’s renowned Areni wine, made from the oldest grape variety in the whole world.
Day 3: Group Tour: Echmiadzin (St. Hripsime, St. Gayane, Mother Cathedral, Treasury Museum), Zvartnots
This daily tour will begin by visiting St. Hripsime church, which was built on the sepulcher of a Christian nun Hripsime who fled from the Roman Empire and was killed in Armenia. This amazing building has stood upright from the day of its construction since 618 A.D, making it one of the oldest standing churches in the world. Five minutes’ drive away will be our next spot: the 7th century church of St. Gayane. After this stop, you will be able to observe the first world’s first Christian Cathedral – the Holy Echmiadzin, built in 301-304. According to the legend, Jesus Christ descended from heaven and showed the place where later Gregory the Illuminator ordered to build the church. On the way back to Yerevan, we will make a final stop at another beautiful 7th century temple Zvartnots, also included in the UNESCO heritage list.It is a unique building with its architectural structure.
Day 4: Transfer to the airport – Departure
On the last day of your tour the transfer to the airport will be organized. We hope you will take with you the best memories about Armenia and a spark of coming back again!
